100 Days of Makeup Challenge: Weeks 3-5

Oh dear… So, these last few weeks have been a great example of where ambition does not equal reality. I had an INSANE project at work with some (slightly unrealistic) tight deadlines… queue 60 hour work weeks times 3. Normally, I have pretty decent work/life balance, but trying to help my team finish this project left me completely dead. Not to mention expensive pest problems, and the second physical therapist finishing a 8 week course of treatment by stating that my MRI was mis-read and they are pretty sure I have a SLAP tear. So back to a specialist. Read: broke.

That all said, there were some wins. I learned a lot about how well I am doing dealing with stress on my new medications (very well!) and that i need to give myself more time to sleep. Seriously. I should get 8-9 hours per night, but my natural Night-Owl nature usually leaves me with 6-7. Not majorly deficit, but it really takes its toll by the end of the week.

So, it goes without saying that I put my own self care and projects on the back burner. It was supposed to be for just 1 week, but once it passed week 3 I was starting to cry uncle. So here are the makeup looks I was able to accomplish on the rare few hours where I wasn’t working, sleeping, or staring a the ceiling in a comatose burnout state.

100 Days of Makeup Challenge- Weeks 3 & 4

Slug Vomit Harry Potter

Eat Slugs Malfoy

Slug vomit… yum. “Better out than in I always say,” said Hagrid. This look was inspired by my ice cube tray. Literally making ice cubes the same day I was doing my Chamber of Secret’s Basilisk, and thought they would make the perfect gelatin slugs! Paired the gelatin slugs with some bright green Mehon aqua colors, dark browns from the Ben Nye Bruise Wheel, and some dark brown bags under the eyes because vomiting slugs is not what I would call…. relaxing.

Scraped knuckles makeup

Wound Makeup: Skinned Knuckles

I used to get busted knuckles every summer working on the race car with my dad, but this takes it beyond the typical scrapes and into the zombie range. By making rings of gelatin, peeling them up slightly from the inside and ringing with black Mehron aqua color, bringing the red irritation down onto the fingers and hands, then covering up with fake blood, the natural skin left in the center of the black ring give the appearance of a down-to-the-bone scuffle.

Blistered Lips

So. Thirsty. Glycerin makes a great base for cracked and peeling lips. And you actually can’t drink wearing it… at least, not without a straw. I used my Ben Nye bruise wheel for the minimal colors, and my usual foundation to color the glycerin “skin.”

Loving hands Instagrami have loved
with hands closed
and hands open
both are accompanied
by their own type of pain

by @Andrew Coons Writing

I knew from the moment I read that poem that I wanted to make it an actual creation. This is by far, my favorite makeup creation yet. The two types of pain display an open hand of stone, and a curled hand of burns. A love present but immovable, and love that burns hot and fast, leaving us scarred for life.

Burned Hand sfx makeup

Burned Hands

3rd degree burn makeup, using homemade gelatin prosthetic, Ben Nye Bruise Wheel, and best of all, this was done left-handed (non-dominant).

Hand of stone

Made of Stone

My first attempt at a stone makeup! Used Mehron water activated grey base, black to like the creases on my had (so many!) and black and white stipple fir more dimension. Turned out pretty cool, I’m hoping to do a full face application soon!

Audrey 2 SFX Makeup

Audrey II

Inspired by seeing the total solar eclipse, Audrey II hails from one of my favorite musicals, “Little Shop of Horrors” and was a fun one to recreate. Just a little reminder not to buy plants during a solar eclipse. Who else saw the total eclipse?
