It’s here!!!! After 11 long months of waiting, October is finally here, and officially kicks off the start of 31 days of Halloween! Get ready for 31 Halloween DIY tutorials! EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Sorry, I’ll try to contain myself. I have been planning this since late November last year. You think I’m kidding. For my first theme of the month? ZOMBIES!
Zombies
Zombie culture fascinates me from so many perspectives. Ever since I read my first post-apocalyptic novel, The Stand by Steven King, I have loved immersing myself in the concept of building up a new society, the survival techniques you must employ, and social constructs you must work adopt. Essentially, it is a new spin on traditional survival debates, and while Zombies are now the most culturally relevant cause for the breakdown of society, there have been many others in the mix through history, such as failed economies (think dirty 30’s), world war (Think Red Dawn), or disease (think black plague + undead).
There are so many angles to debate, such as the best survival techniques, how to re-build society, and even discussion on the origin of the zombie (prion disease, parasite, or magical re-animation, etc.) can lead to incredible and insightful debates over a drink or two.
The Dearly Undead
With that said, my first series in this year’s 31 days of Halloween will dedicated to those who are fascinated with the un-dead! I have many a gory makeup tutorial planned (as you might have guessed from the pictures, but if the guts and gore of zombie culture are not your jam… stay tuned! I have a few fun un-dead options that skip the zombie blood and focus more on themes. Regardless of your zombie preferences, stay tuned for makeup, costume, decor, food themed DIY tutorials to tickle (and eat?) your braaaaaiiiiiinnnnnsssss!
