Back a few months ago, I completely revolutionized the way I looked at my health and fitness. Before that, it was more like… “I’m gunna fit-ness donut in my mouth.” I was incredibly proud of my 10 week results after doing Farrells. But life has a way of throwing a curve ball and reminding you why you can’t count on “your plans.” So I didn’t make nearly as much progress in the following months as I would have liked.
The most important part of a fitness routine
Starting a new job a month ago made a big difference in many ways, from a more steady income to the increased confidence that comes when you have a reason to put on pants… but most importantly of all for me was routine. I’ve had to plan meals ahead, and had something to keep me steadily occupied and challenged through the day. I took the first week of this job off from the gym, but in the last three weeks I’ve been killing it with my nutrition and workout schedule.
Weight really is just a number
Even with the backslides and stagnant progress, I kept up at least 3 days a week at the gym even if I was eating poorly and now 3 weeks in I remember why I love it. The confidence to wear tank tops because IM ACTUALLY PROUD OF MY ARMS YOU GUYS. For the first time in my life. Or the fact I haven’t weighed myself in nearly a month, and honestly, don’t think about it much. I did just this weekend out of curiosity and was pleased to see motion in the right direction, but I wasn’t fazed by the number.
Five years ago I lost 40lbs with Weight Watchers and the scale now shows a number just a hair under that previous starting weight. This time, however, I’m two sizes smaller and have more confidence about myself than I ever could have dreamed. I bought cute shorty shorts and wore them comfortably this summer. I wore tank tops without a care. I sometimes flex at myself in the mirror. It’s awesome to finally love my body! You really do have to invest in yourself… as a way to treat yourself rather than in punishment for a poor diet.
Fall Fitness Challenge
As a way to keep myself accountable, I have considered becoming a coach for one of the upcoming rounds of 10-weekers coming into the Farrells programs. In preparation for that, I also signed up for the fall FIT challenge, and decided to keep myself accountable to YOU my readers.
The FIT challenge consists of a set of workouts that have to be completed (for points) which unlocks the location of a geo-cache that can be found and redeemed for additional points. For example, one challenge is to run 3 miles, another to do 100 alternating roundhouse kicks +200 squats + something else I can’t remember right now. You don’t have to do them all at once, but you do have to complete a total of that number before unlocking the cache. Sooo…. I will do my best to track how many of each I do daily, and post at the end of the week… hopefully with some fun geo-cache finds! (Have you done geo-caching? I’ve heard a lot about it but have never actually tried it.)
Here’s to a healthy body and self esteem!
